Audi e-tron GT Service and Repair Manual — 2021 onward
An e-tron GT is not a car you approach the way you would an A4. It runs an 800-volt electrical system with enough stored energy to kill you instantly if you treat it carelessly. There is no engine, no gearbox in the conventional sense, and no timing belt to worry about — but there is a high-voltage battery, a pair of powerful motors, four interlinked cooling circuits, and a level of software control that makes correct procedure non-negotiable.
This documentation exists to tell you how to work on it safely and correctly. On a car like this, that is the whole job.
A note on what this manual is — and is not
The e-tron GT is a recent, low-volume, high-value car. It does not have a twenty-year history of documented failures, and any listing claiming to detail its “common faults” is inventing them.
What it has instead is an electrical architecture where a mistake is not a rounding error — it is a fire, a destroyed battery pack, or a fatal shock. So this set is built around procedure, safety and diagnosis, not around a fictional fault list. If you want a manual that pretends this EV breaks like a 2005 diesel, this is not it. If you want to work on the car correctly, it is.
High-voltage safety warning. Work on the high-voltage system of an e-tron GT must only be carried out by technicians trained and qualified for high-voltage vehicles, using the correct personal protective equipment and insulated tools, after the system has been de-energised and verified dead. This documentation describes those procedures; it does not qualify you to perform them. If you are not HV-certified, the low-voltage, chassis, body and diagnostic sections are yours to use — the high-voltage work is not.
What the e-tron GT is
Launched in 2021, the e-tron GT is Audi’s fully electric four-door grand tourer, built on the J1 platform shared with the Porsche Taycan and produced in Germany. It uses an 800-volt architecture — unusual even now — which is what allows its very high charging speeds.
A significant mid-cycle update arrived for the 2025 model year, bringing a larger and lighter battery, more powerful motors, faster charging, revised styling and a new active suspension option. The pre-2025 and 2025-onward cars differ enough that the documentation treats them as distinct.

The high-voltage system
This is the heart of the car and the heart of the manual.
- De-energisation and lockout — the complete, correct sequence to render the high-voltage system safe, and the measurement procedure to verify it is actually dead before you touch anything. This is the first thing you read and the last thing you skip.
- The high-voltage battery — its construction, the module layout, the service disconnect, and the removal and handling procedure. A damaged pack is a thermal-runaway risk and is handled accordingly.
- The electric motors — front and rear, their cooling, and their control.
- Power electronics and inverters — the units that convert battery DC to motor AC, and the 800-volt-to-400-volt and DC/DC conversion.
- Charging system — AC and DC charging, the charge port, and the 800-volt fast-charge behaviour.
- HV cabling and interlocks — the orange-cabled circuits, the interlock loop, and what a broken interlock does.
Thermal management — four circuits, one system
The e-tron GT juggles four interconnected coolant circuits to keep the battery, motors, power electronics and cabin at their correct temperatures. On an EV this is not a comfort feature — battery temperature directly governs charging speed, performance and long-term pack health.
The coolant circuits, the heat pump, the valves that route coolant between circuits, and the diagnosis of a car that charges slowly or loses performance when hot or cold are all documented. A great many “performance” complaints on EVs are really thermal-management faults.
Chassis, suspension and brakes
Air suspension — the adaptive air suspension, its struts, compressor, valve block and level sensors. A car sitting low on one corner is a diagnostic sequence, not an automatic strut replacement. The 2025 active suspension with hydraulic actuators is covered separately, as it is a fundamentally different system.
Rear-wheel steering — where fitted, its actuator, calibration and fault tracing.
Brakes and regeneration — the friction brakes work alongside regenerative braking, and most deceleration is actually done by the motors. This has real consequences: the friction brakes are used so lightly that the discs can corrode from underuse, and pad and disc service has EV-specific considerations. The electronic parking brake requires service-mode retraction before pad work — force it and you damage the motor.
Two-speed rear transmission — the e-tron GT’s rear axle has a two-speed gearbox, unusual among EVs. Its operation and fluid are covered.
Electrical, diagnostics and software
Full low-voltage wiring diagrams, connector views and pinouts, the 12-volt system and its battery, CAN and Ethernet topology, the control-unit network, immobiliser and key adaptation, and fault code tables with measuring block references.
As with any modern Audi, component replacement generally requires coding and adaptation — a mechanically complete repair with no software step is incomplete, and the car will report it. The matrix LED and OLED lighting modules are addressed as software components requiring coding after replacement.

Frequently asked questions
Can I work on the high-voltage system myself?
Only if you are trained and qualified for high-voltage vehicles, with the correct insulated tools and PPE, and only after de-energising and verifying the system is dead. The documentation describes those procedures but does not qualify you to perform them. If you are not HV-certified, use the chassis, body, brake, suspension and diagnostic sections and leave the orange cables alone. This is not caution for its own sake — the energy in this system will kill you.
Why does this manual not list common faults like your older listings?
Because the car is too new to have a meaningful failure history, and inventing one would be dishonest. What matters far more on an EV this powerful is correct, safe procedure — and that is what this set provides.
Does it cover the 2025 facelift?
Yes. The larger battery, uprated motors, faster charging and the new active suspension of the 2025-onward cars are covered, alongside the earlier cars, which the documentation keeps distinct.
Does this include the RS e-tron GT?
No. The RS e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT performance are separate, higher-output models with their own documentation, linked below. This set covers the e-tron GT and S e-tron GT.
My car charges slowly or loses performance when hot. Is that in here?
Yes. On an EV, this is almost always thermal management rather than a battery or motor fault. The four coolant circuits, the heat pump and the valves that route coolant between them are documented, along with the diagnostic approach.
Does an EV really need servicing?
Yes — just different servicing. No oil changes, but coolant service across four circuits, brake fluid, the light-use disc corrosion issue, cabin filters, the heat pump, the rear transmission fluid, and tyre and alignment work that matters a great deal on a car this heavy and powerful. It is all covered.
Will this work with VCDS or ODIS?
Fault codes, measuring blocks and adaptation channels map to ODIS. The e-tron GT’s architecture is demanding, so confirm your interface and software actually support the car before relying on it — and note that high-voltage diagnostics carry their own safety requirements.
